There are few things that divide people in the world as much as this. The eternal debate over bathroom conventions – should toilet paper be over or under?
It turns out the question has actually been answered more than a
century ago.
According to the 1891 patent by New York businessman Seth Wheeler, the
end of a toilet paper roll should be on the outside, or in other words, the
‘over’ position.
If you’re part of the ‘over’ group, it’s time to pop open the special
champagne and party like it’s 1999. Advocates for the ‘under’ position… well,
what can I say, you better flip that roll over when you get home.
Owen Williams originally shared the discovery on Twitter, posting a
picture of Wheeler’s patent for the toilet paper roll. The photo clearly shows
that the paper should go over the roll, not under.

Of course, there are some who say they don’t care and there are bigger
things in life to worry about. Well… you’re probably right but it’s the small
